A visit to Burgers' Zoo is possible even in pouring rain, as a large section is covered. There's a tropical rainforest you can enter (make sure you wear clothes you can easily remove, as it can get warm), you can explore the desert, and walk among the fish in the unique aquarium. Outside, you can walk over the various animals via a skybridge.
After viewing the live animals in this beautifully and attractively designed zoo, you can experience the thrill of encountering the animals of yesteryear in the so-called Dinosaur Forest.
At the top of Grebbeberg hill lies the famous Ouwehands Zoo. The children's series Zoop was filmed here, among other things. It's the only zoo in Europe with a Bear Forest: a skybridge lets you walk over the forest to see the bears from above. Besides the well-known zoo, Ouwehands also has an indoor children's playground: Ravotapia! So it's a fun attraction even in changeable weather.
Hardewijk's beautiful city center is a protected cityscape and is within walking distance of the Dolfinarium in Hardewijk. This marine mammal park, home to many dolphins, not only offers entertainment but also aims to safeguard the animals' welfare. Extensive research is conducted here.
The authority on monkeys and apes: enjoy the chimpanzees' frolicking, wander through the areas with the free-roaming monkeys (make sure your bag is securely closed), and don't miss one of the feeding shows.
The Utrechtse Heuvelrug's big brother, with its white bicycle path, the renowned Kröller-Müller Museum and all its precious art treasures. Also definitely worth a visit is the less-visited Museonder: the world's first underground museum where you follow the soil layer by layer, all the way to the center of the earth. National park tickets are sold at the reception. The park has 1,800 free white bicycles available for you to explore 5,400 hectares of nature reserve!
The second-largest forest in the Netherlands is located just a few kilometers from the Ruwinkel Estate. As the name suggests, the area is largely hilly. The landscape is wooded, but you'll also find vast heathlands, sand drifts, and grasslands. Beautiful hiking trails have been laid out along the ridge: simply follow the signs and you'll automatically return to your starting point.
After the Second World War, the Grebbe Line ceased to be a defensive structure. This allowed nature to take its course over the years. The Grebbe Line stretches from Grebbeberg in Rhenen, where you can visit a small information center at the military cemetery, to the port of Bunschoten-Spakenburg. Too much to see in one visit! You can explore the Grebbe Line with a free app for iPhone or Android.
In the village next to Scherpenzeel stands Renswoude Castle. It dates from around the same time as Scherpenzeel House. This castle is inhabited (apartments) and is therefore not open to the public. You can, however, walk around the castle, in the beautiful woods. In front of Renswoude Castle, across the road, is a pond inspired by the ponds at the Palace of Versailles of Louis XIV, the Sun King.
In the heart of the Veluwe region, in the wooded municipality of Apeldoorn, lies Paleis Het Loo. The former Royal Palace opened to the public in 1984 after a thorough restoration. Here you can discover how the House of Orange lived and worked there for 300 years. The magnificent Baroque gardens, modeled after the 17th century, are unique in the Netherlands.
Amerongen Castle is just 12 kilometers from the Ruwinkel Estate. The history of this fortress dates back to 1286, but its current appearance dates back to 1680. This castle has been beautifully restored and you can visit the interior!
In the heart of the village of Scherpenzeel, directly behind the village street, lies Huis Scherpenzeel. A fortified house stood on this site as early as the fourteenth century. Scherpenzeel occupied a strategically important position on the border between Gelderland and the Bishopric of Utrecht. It was therefore alternately a Gelderland and Utrecht territory. The house acquired its current style in the 18th century. Currently, the house is used for public gatherings, including weddings.
In the early 18th century, Napoleon's French army was stationed where the village of Austerlitz now stands. To prevent the widespread boredom among the French troops, then-General Auguste de Marmont ordered the construction of a pyramid of earth and turf on the then treeless Utrecht Hill Ridge. How different the view is today! This historic landmark is not to be missed.
The town of Doorn and House Doorn are just a bike ride from Landgoed Ruwinkel. The history of this house dates back to 838! Its current appearance dates back to 1796. Its most famous resident was the former Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany. After Germany lost the First World War, the Kaiser was in Belgium and was unable to re-enter Germany. He sought asylum from his niece, Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. After living in Amerongen Castle for two years, he purchased Doorn House. The house has been largely preserved in its original state and can be visited inside. You'll also find Kaiser Wilhelm's mausoleum here.
Who isn't familiar with the famous parades that took place on the steps of Soestdijk Palace? The former residence and office of Queen Juliana and Prince Bernard is still open to visitors (until it finds a new purpose), so don't miss out! Soestdijk Palace is just a half-hour drive from Landgoed Ruwinkel.

Everyone knows Miffy: opposite the Central Museum you can visit the Dick Bruna House.
The museum farm offers a unique glimpse into the history of farm life. Farming implements used to work the land 100 years ago are on display. Or how about the 250-year-old churn mill, still in regular use. The De Grote Glind museum farm is housed in a farmhouse over 400 years old.
The town of Veenendaal originated at the lowest point of the Gelderland valley as a result of peat extraction (the name itself suggests it). In the last century, the municipality grew enormously, thanks to new industries. Perhaps Scheepjeswol and Ritmeester cigars are brands that still ring a bell? In Veenendaal itself, you can experience this industrial history and more in this interactive museum!
Strolling through the woods, you'll step into the past: this is the open-air museum in Arnhem. You'll walk from farm to farmstead, and suddenly you're in Amsterdam's Jordaan district! The open-air museum is a true experience for all ages and is open year-round.
For 19th- and 20th-century art, visit the Kröller-Müller Museum in the Hoge Veluwe National Park. The collection features many works by Vincent van Gogh. The museum's unique sculpture garden was recently designated a national monument.
In the "for true enthusiasts" category, you'll find the embroidery museum in Barneveld. Many embroideries are on display here, primarily made by women, but don't be fooled: there are also pieces made by men. It's the largest embroidery collection in the Netherlands.
What came first, the chicken or the egg? The Food Valley, and Barneveld in particular, is known for its chickens. In this museum, you can see chicks hatching from eggs: how adorable is that? The museum is located about ten kilometers from Landgoed Ruwinkel.
The only museum where adults are allowed to touch the items! Well worth a visit, as you too will encounter things that have gradually disappeared from our daily lives. The village of Terschuur and the Old Crafts and Toys Museum are located about 14 kilometers from our holiday park.
Most museums in the area are closed on Mondays, but the Spakenburg Museum is open on this day. Here you'll find everything about the old fishing village on the former Zuiderzee. Please note: the museum is closed on Sundays due to the Sabbath, which is strictly observed in this religious community. The fishing village itself, with its famous Spakenburg fishing boats, is also well worth a visit.
The Museum of Sound and Vision is located in Hilversum's Media Park. The building itself is a sight to behold. The Museum of Sound and Vision tells the story of the history of radio and television. The museum is interactive: you can even read a news report or participate in a recorded soap opera. Radio recordings are also regularly made and broadcast live. It's a feast for the eyes!
At the end of 2014, the National Military Museum opened at the former Soesterberg airfield. It combines several separate museums into one large, brand-new national museum dedicated to our national security and the defense of our freedom. You can admire a Dakota that served in our armed forces. The museum is located approximately 20 kilometers from our holiday park.
Amersfoort National Camp perpetuates the memories of the suffering endured by approximately 47,000 prisoners during World War II. A memorial center was established at the historic site in 2004. Since 2021, the story of the camp and its prisoners has been told in the underground museum and on the indoor and outdoor grounds.

You can easily get there by parking for free at Veenendaal de Klomp station: from there, you're in the heart of Utrecht in just half an hour.
The Waterline Museum in Bunnik, located in Fort Vechten, uses a remarkable number of modern techniques to bring the stories of the past to life. You'll play an active role in discovering this.
In the municipality of Maarsbergen, located near Scherpenzeel (part of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug), you'll find the Boter-kaas Museum (Butter and Cheese Museum). Here you can see all the facets of making butter and cheese. After your tour, you can enjoy a cup of coffee and accessories in the guest room. Of course, you can also purchase a piece of artisanal cheese or butter.
This centuries-old farm in Scherpenzeel is entirely dedicated to the Grebbe Line. Here you can see the trenches built in this region to hold back the enemy. There's also an interesting museum about the Grebbe Line.
Hit musicals like Chicago, Saturday Night Fever, Mamma Mia!, and Jersey Boys: who doesn't know them? All performed at the Beatrix Theatre in Utrecht. Easily accessible by direct train from Veenendaal de Klomp. Starting September 21, 2014, "Mother, I Want to Join the Revue" will fill the stage.

In the heart of Amersfoort lies the newest addition to the Pathé cinema chain. All theaters are equipped with digital film projectors. Explore Eemland by bike and by cycle boat. They provide the tourist service across the Eem River and the Randmeren with the cycle boat. The cycle boat has its permanent mooring in Amersfoort. The boat sails (depending on the day) via the embarkation and disembarkation points: Soest, Baarn, and Eemdijk to Huizen or Spakenburg. The boat also sails back to Amersfoort via Eemdijk, Baarn, and Soest.
